glock 17 ghost

Glock 17 Ghost - Let's go ahead and get this out of the way. If you are reading this to see if the Polymer 80 Glock is easy to build, let me answer you now. Yes, it is true. It is very easy to do and I believe anyone can do it. Polymer 80 Glocks are very easy to build and the one I am reviewing now was made with the lower 80 template, a Dremel and a hand drill. Took me a few hours and some sand and now it works like a champ. If you're on the fence, just dive in and do it.

Now that we have a few fence sitters out of the way, let's talk about the Polymer 80 Glock I picked up and give it a quick review. The PF940V2 is a full-size model that uses a Glock 17, 22, 34, 24, 35, 31 or 17L slide. Most of us probably pick up a Glock 17 or 34. I went with the 17. Now for sale at Rockey Brass!

Polymer 80 Glocks use very common and easy to find Gen 3 parts. I chose a Larry Vickers special edition Glock 17 slide, a Bear Creek Arsenal barrel, and a set of Glock OEM lowers. The Glock kit included an extended magazine release and slide lock.

Ggp Combat Pistol Frame™ Full Size/standard

I find the Poly 80 frame to be superior to the OEM Glock frame in most ways. There are no finger grooves which is great. It uses a 19-degree grip angle from the 1911 compared to the Glock's 22-degree grip, which I find more comfortable and natural. The rail is a true Picatinny rail as opposed to Glock's standard rail system. The gun also has a beaver tail on the back, which you don't get with OEM Glock frames. The PF940V2 is basically an American Glock.

As you know, America does it better. All of these changes to the lower frame make the Glock more ergonomic and easier to handle. The grip angle of the Polymer80 is more comfortable for me, but that's very subjective. It feels more natural, but if you've been with a Glock for years, you might find it strange.

One thing I like about the Polymer80 Glock is the addition of a beaver tail. The problem I am running into with Glocks is the slide bite. If I hold the gun comfortably and hide it, the slide bites me with every round and eventually breaks the skin. The Polymer 80 frame doesn't provide the same slide bite. The extra beaver tail protects you from this and also gives you more leverage to combat muzzle rise.

Once the gun runs reliably, you probably won't notice much difference in accuracy with the Polymer 80. The frame rarely affects accuracy. This makes the gun more comfortable to shoot and easier to control. I think the Polymer 80 has addressed most of the criticism the Glock receives. Even Glock has removed the finger grooves on the latest generation of Glock pistols.

The Glock 17: A Pistol For Fighting

The downside is using a non-standard aftermarket frame. You lose compatibility with many different cases as well as different framework resources. Some internal organs like catalysts will still be very compatible. However, resources such as magwells no longer respond.

Another disadvantage is reliability. You have to ask yourself, do you trust your skills as a gunsmith? I personally don't. I wouldn't use my Polymer80 Glock as a defense gun unless absolutely necessary. Although I have not encountered any reliability issues, I prefer the Glock OEM pistol for defensive use. The good news is that you can buy a complete Poly 80 frame, but that requires an FFL transfer as well as all the parts you need to assemble the gun.

The Polymer80 Glock is a fun project that allows you to build your own gun. It's just a project for me. For some, this may be the easiest legal way to own a gun. Different state laws make it more difficult to buy a handgun, so building your own may be your only option. If you're under 21, you can't buy a gun from a gun store, but federal law doesn't prevent you from making your own. Of course, check your country's laws.
