The Sig P365 Xl: A Really Good Pistol

Our customer service timeline is as follows: The compact 9mm single stack pistol formula was created in the early 2000s and hasn't changed much in a decade or more. The formula was simple: small guns that traded concealability and easy portability for a small ammo capacity. An eight-round magazine was the accepted norm, and no one really challenged the idea. Nothing, that is, until Sig Sauer came along with the P365.
The Sig P365 was introduced in early 2018 to near-universal acclaim. The P365 incorporates many design cues from the larger P320 semi-automatic pistol, the military's new standard service pistol, albeit in a reduced size. It includes features such as an integrated fire control group with a trigger housed in a polymer grip module. This means that it is easy to swap out one grip frame for another frame of a different size or color, making it easy to customize the gun to your liking.
However, the real game changer is the P365 magazine and how it fits into the pistol frame. A 10-round pistol magazine is nothing new to compact pistols. Scaled-down versions of big guns like the Glock 26 have used 10-round magazines for more than two decades. What's new, though, is the 10-round capacity in a gun that's just over an inch wide and has a handle long enough to wrap all your fingers around. The P365 also comes with 12-round and 15-round magazines. That means this pistol has potentially twice the ammo capacity of some of the other pistols in our compact 9mm pistol test.
However, this extra ammo capacity has some drawbacks. The P365 is quite small, the smallest in our tests. However, once you start adding more magazine capacity, the magazine length increases. It also increases the height of the gun. Gun height (the distance from the top of the slide to the base of the magazine) is important because it affects how easy the gun is to conceal. A longer gun sticks out more on the belt, making it harder to conceal.
Sig Sauer P365 Sas 9mm Review
A 12 or 15 round magazine in a Sig P365 can solve one of the main reasons for a smaller 9mm, concealment. Presumably, if your small 15-round pistol is as difficult to conceal as a large 15-round pistol, why not carry a larger, easier-to-shoot pistol? I have to admit that the thoughts make a lot of sense to me. This is why I recommend people carry their P365 with a ten round or optional twelve round magazine and keep the 15 round magazine as a backup or backup magazine.
The gun is quite small. It's the smallest and thinnest in our test. However, for some reason the Sig P365 felt smaller in my hand than when I first picked it up. However, it was not difficult to deal with. The pistol grip extends downwards, mimicking the shape of your hands. The grip also feels pretty short, rear-forward, compared to other guns in this test. These two things work together to make the P365 very easy to hold and easy to shoot.
The gun I fired had a large day-glo green circle on the front with a tritium dot between the sights. This front sight is my favorite setup on a defensive pistol, especially with a blacked out rear sight like this one. The P365 has a built-in trigger safety to reduce the chance of accidental discharge. There are also two other internal safeguards. Additionally, the version I tested had a manual, frame-mounted safety lever. I had no problem with the safety activating when I pressed the gun toward the target. This is exactly what you want in a manual defense. If you're someone who needs a manual carry pistol safety, the P365 safety will work for you.
On the range, the P365's comfortable grip and nice trigger made it a fun gun to shoot, even for long range sessions. The short extension at the end of a standard 10 round magazine was enough to give me a good grip on the pistol. This, along with excellent pistol sights and an excellent trigger, makes it easy to switch to tight groups on demand. Speaking of which…
Sig Sauer P365 Gun Cleaning Mat
The P365 was one of the most accurate guns in our test. If I have one complaint about this pistol, it is that the front sight is so wide that it comes very close to filling the void of the rear sight. A large front sight makes it easy to raise when you point the gun at the target. However, the small gap between the front sight post and the rear sight makes it difficult to get an accurate sight picture. There are not enough differences to easily judge visual consistency. This is why I prefer a narrow front sight on my pistols.
From the bench at 15 yards, the Sig Sauer P365 averaged groups just under three inches in diameter. We used the same three types of 9mm ammunition to test the P365 as we did with all the other guns on our list of the best small 9mm compact polymer pistols.
