One of the most interesting trends in the handgun world is the revolver than the first, not only gun ammo, but guns as well. Developed by Jean LeMat, a French immigrant to America, LeMat's invention was a twist on the cap and ball, fashionable at the time, but featuring two barrels and a nine-foot cylinder. This gave the LeMat a unique look, both then and today. The cylinder holds both .40 and .42 bullets as well as the larger .60 caliber/20 cartridge. The latter gave the revolver the title "The Grape Shot Revolver". Up to 2,400 LeMas were smuggled into the Confederacy to arm cavalry units.

The cylinder not only takes 2.5-inch .410 and .45 Long Colt cartridges, but also .45 ACP cartridges. .45 ACP cartridges are loaded and ejected from the revolver via clips that hold either two or six rounds. Labeled round-round or half-round in shape, the moon clip allows the revolver to be reloaded much faster than the usual sequential loading of rounds.
The governor is a double/single duty inverter. Under normal circumstances, it can be hit and fired with a single heavy pull - the so-called double action system. However, locking the hammer exposed to the rear reduces both the trigger and resulting travel distance, making the gun easier to fire and more effective than when fired in double action mode.
